New Sermon Series: The Fourfold Gospel

Over the next few weeks, we will be working our way thru The Fourfold Gospel on Sunday mornings as we worship together.

What is The Fourfold Gospel?

The term fourfold Gospel describes the historic emphasis of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada (C&MA) on the person of Jesus Christ. These characteristics of Jesus and His ministry are what defined the C&MA more than 100 years ago, and they continue to be the foundation of our Christ-centred, Spirit-empowered, Mission-focused work today. Our founder A.B. Simpson’s life was transformed by encountering the power and presence of Jesus and it is our hope that you encounter Him as well.

The pitcher symbolizes Christ our Healer. It speaks of oil for divine life and physical healing.

The crown stands for Christ our Coming King. He will come back to this earth and reign forever.

The cross typifies Jesus Christ our Savior. He died on a cross for our sins, and only through Him can we be made right with God.

The laver illustrates Christ as our Sanctifier. The laver—a large basin used in God’s temple for washing—represents cleansing from sin by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Its Easter Egg Candy Time!

Its that time of year! We need candy to fill our Easter Eggs for the Easter Egg Hunt. We need individually wrapped “fun size” candy. Bring the candy with you on Sundays and drop them in the bin in the lobby on Sundays.

We will be recruiting volunteers for the day of the hunt soon, so save the date: Sat April 1, from 10 am-1 pm

Community Need

On Tuesday of this week (January 10th), a student at Lansdowne High School was stabbed in a brutal attack by another student. This student faces a long road to recovery, and one tangible way we can come alongside our community is by helping this family financially as they make their way thru this struggle. A “GoFundMe” page has been set up and is linked below. More details on this tragic event are at the link as well.

Obviously, prayer is massively important as well, so let’s join together as a church family to lift this student to Jesus, our Healer, for physical healing over the next weeks and months. Let’s also lift this entire situation to Jesus our King so that justice will be done and peace can reign. Let’s also keep everyone at LHS in prayer as they are now facing life after this moment of fear and violence at their school.

Youth Ministry

The Youth Ministry is moving into the new year continuing to grow and reach new students each week with the Gospel. We are adding new faces quite often and the Youth are sharing a meal together each week, enjoying a time of worship and spending time in age-appropriate Small Groups with their leaders, discussing the lesson and scripture on a deeper level. We have begun the 2023 calendar year by going through a series breaking up different songs by the band For King & Country, examining the themes of the songs and seeing in scripture where the songs came from. For the first week of the series, by looking at the song Together by For King & Country, students looked at Mark 2:1-12 and the story of the paralyzed man and how being in community with one another allows us to notice the needs of others better and respond with action to help those around us. The group is comprised mostly of middle schoolers at this time, with a couple of high schoolers and the leadership team is Steven & Cherish Price, Amanda Tritt, Dawson Zartman, Devon Davenport, and Jimler Asis. We also have Pastor Jeff and Ashley Hilton helping run the media and tech on an alternating schedule.

Youth Group Returns Next Week!

Join us next Wednesday, January 11th from 6pm-8pm as we kick off 2023 at Youth Group! Grades 6-12 are invited to join us each week for a great time of worship, games, hanging out with friends, and more. This week we will be digging into 1 Corinthians 1:10 and talking about unity in the body of Christ and being representatives of God. We'll also have hot dogs and chili on the menu for dinner this week along with some announcements about some future events that we'll be adding to the calendar. Hope to see you there!

This Sunday, we begin 40 Days Of Prayer along with our Alliance family. There are many great resources to go along with our 6 weeks sermon series at the link below.

During our services these 6 weeks, you should expect to experience more prayer times and times of quiet reflection. As a part of this, we will have a place in the sanctuary where those who want to can put away their phone while in our service together. This is, of course, totally optional, but this could be a great time to create a new practice of presence during these 6 weeks. So, when you come to church this week, consider trying this little practice out as we focus on prayer together to start 2023!

Youth Night Review

We had our second Youth Night of the Summer Wed night, and it was a huge success! Spend time praying for relationships to continue being built at our next Youth Night on August 17th.

This Sunday we continue our series in Acts. Take some time and read the text before Sunday:

Acts 6:8-15

8 And Stephen, full of grace and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people. 9 Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and disputed with Stephen. 10 But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking. 11 Then they secretly instigated men who said, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.” 12 And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they came upon him and seized him and brought him before the council, 13 and they set up false witnesses who said, “This man never ceases to speak words against this holy place and the law, 14 for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and will change the customs that Moses delivered to us.” 15 And gazing at him, all who sat in the council saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

This Sunday we continue our series in Acts. Take some time and read the text before Sunday:

Acts 6:1-7: Seven Chosen to Serve

1Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch. These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands on them.

And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith.
